FORMER Ford car design chief Professor Richard Parry-Jones is to become non-executive chairman of the Bradford-based Kelda Group, which includes Yorkshire Water, from next April.

Mr Parry-Jones ( left) worked for Ford for nearly 40 years, becoming group vice-president and chief technical officer. He retired in 2007 and has since combined a career in consultancy with non-executive board roles.

He is senior independent director at engineering giant GKN and has been non-executive chairman at Network Rail since 2012.

Mr Parry-Jones, who was made a CBE in 2004 for services to the automobile industry, has also advised the UK and Welsh governments on industrial policy. Mr Parry-Jones said: “I am excited to be given the opportunity to work with the executive team to help the men and women of Yorkshire Water and Kelda.”

He will replace Kevin Whiteman, who is stepping down after 17 years with the group.
