FOUR primary schools are to be expanded to try to ease the demand for places.

Bradford Council’s Executive today gave the go-ahead to enlarge Barkerend Primary School in Bradford, Wycliffe CE Primary in Shipley and Stocks Lane Primary School in Queensbury.

Councillors also noted plans to increase the size of Lidget Green Primary School – a decision the school’s governors will have the final say on.

Councillor Ralph Berry (Lab), executive member for children’s services, said: “Pressure on school places is very high.”

Under the plans, Barkerend Primary will increase from 412 to 630 pupils, Stocks Lane Primary School will double its pupil population to 210, Wycliffe CE will rise from 315 to 420 and Lidget Green will increase in capacity from 525 to 630.

Extensions will be built at all the schools.
