A UNIVERSITY student has gone on trial in Bradford accused of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault.

Kris Mambo, 22, of Little Horton Lane, Bradford, originally from Kenya, who studies civil engineering at the University of Bradford, befriended the complainant and began texting her, the city's Crown Court was told yesterday.

Ian Mullarkey, prosecuting told the jury the first incident, a sexual assault dated between November 1 and 18, 2013, occurred when Mambo and the complainant went back to her house after they had been to a restaurant together.

He began to kiss her and she pushed him away but he pushed her against the wall with some force and touched her breasts. He then tried to remove her belt but she was able to flee.

She called Mambo a few days later to ask him why he had assaulted her, Mr Mullarkey said.

In the second count, a rape, dated some time between December 1 and 31, the complainant went back to Mambo's house and asked for something to eat but he began to remove her coat.

Mr Mullarkey said: "She told him to stop but he was much stronger than she was and he removed all of her clothing.

"The defendant carried on regardless and raped her.

"She began crying and he stopped. He got up to get a condom and said 'I don't want to get you pregnant'.

"She said 'why are you doing this to me? He said 'because I love you. I'm so sorry, I did not mean to do it, I did not mean to do it.

"She thought he needed God in his world.

"He did not take seriously what he had done. He said 'some girls like rape'.

"He said in an interview with police that whatever happened between them was consensual."

The third count, an attempted rape on May 20 this year, took place at Mambo's home, the jury was told.

He told her 'welcome to my scary place', said Mr Mullarkey.

He told her 'let's play' and began kissing her with "some force", he grabbed her and the woman was having flashbacks.

But the woman bit him and he fell over. He then began to grab her breast and kissing her stomach.

She bit him again and grabbed her phone to call the police.

She also picked up some scissors from the floor and stabbed him in the back, causing him to bleed. The police arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and Mambo was interviewed by police.

Mambo has pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

The trial continues.
