A YOUNG mother has recalled the moment she was shot in the stomach as an attempted murder trial got under way.

Hasan Khan, of Newlands Avenue, Fagley, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Ashleigh McPherson, 22, who suffered two gunshot wounds to her stomach during an incident at her mother's home in Longfield Drive, East Bowling, Bradford, on May 16 this year, and to wounding her with intent.

Miss McPherson had been drinking vodka in the back garden of Christine Holdsworth's house, with her nine-month-old daughter and her brothers Adrian and Daniel McPherson.

The court heard she left her seat in the garden after hearing the first gun shot from Khan, which went through the glass kitchen window of the property, describing it as a "loud bang".

But then she was shot herself by Khan, who fired through the glass front door of the property seconds later.

The first shot was heard at around 3.10pm that afternoon.

There had been an incident between Khan and Miss McPherson's other brother, Luke Orker, at around 12.30pm on that day at a different location, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday. Orker had been at the Longfield Drive address before the shootings.

Miss McPherson, who gave her evidence in court from behind a screen, said: "It all happened so quickly.

"I was in shock and saw my hand and saw all this blood coming out.

"I heard a big bang, like a firework, I was standing at the back door. I could not tell where the big bang had come from. I stood up and went to look at the front door. I was standing at the back door.

"He was holding a gun. He was holding his left hand underneath it and had his right hand on the trigger at face level.

"I saw him very clearly to know it was him.

"He was pointing it where I was stood. Then I got shot.

"It was a bit of a blur after that. The pellets hit my hand.

"There had been about five to ten seconds between the two shots."

Ashleigh had three pellets removed from her breast, stomach wall and forearm during a subsequent operation.

Khan, who is in a long-term relationship and has three children with Ashleigh's sister Sarah McPherson, has known Ashleigh for ten years.

He admitted a charge of having a firearm with intent at an earlier hearing.

Patrick Standfast, prosecuting, said: "There was a confrontation between Luke Orker and Khan. This was the catalyst for what happened later that afternoon.

"A large number of shotgun pellets had caused her a large number of wounds across her body.

"Her stomach was covered in blood by the gunshot wounds."

A Shogun-type vehicle, driven by Khan, was seen leaving the scene after the shootings. He was arrested in Blackpool the following day, alongside fellow defendant Ann-Marie Pulford, 25, of Blackpool.

Pulford pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender, by transporting Khan to Blackpool and supplying him with petrol, in order to destroy forensic evidence, with intent to impede the apprehension of him.

The trial continues.
