DETAILS of forthcoming blood donor sessions have been released by the NHS Blood and Transplants unit.

The Bradford Donor Centre, in Rawson Road, will be open to donors from 11.05am, closing at 6.40pm, in the week beginning Monday, November 3.

A blood donor session will also take place at Ian Clough Hall in Hall Cliffe, Baildon, on November 4.

Although the amount of blood needed by the NHS has reduced due to advanced treatment methods, the service still needs 7,000 people to make donations every day.

The job of ensuring blood is always available is complicated by the fact that Red blood cells have a shelf life of only 35 days and platelets must be used within seven days.

Donna Batty, Lead Donor Relations Manager for of NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “ As the weather gets colder there is an increase in people who can’t donate due to colds and flu, so we really do need everyone who can donate to make the effort to do so.”
