A PETITION to seek more Government funding for additional secondary school places in Wharfedale was approved by members at tonight's full meeting of Bradford Council.
More than 2,000 people signed the document, which highlighted that schools had already been oversubscribed in the area for the past six years, with plans to build 1,600 new homes in the area by 2030.
Members were asked to re-affirm their commitment to a new secondary school for the Wharfe valley and ring-fence a suitable site.
Councillor Jackie Whiteley (Con, Wharfedale) said: "The Council has a duty to provide school places, and residents want it to act now."
