AN INQUEST has opened and adjourned into the death of a 38-year-old man who died after his sports car collided with a parked lorry and smashed into trees on a moorland road near High Eldwick, Bingley.

Married Samuel Francis Edson, of Bolling Road, Ilkley, was at the wheel of the Porsche Boxster convertible which had its roof down. He suffered serious head injuries and died a short time after the crash.

An air ambulance, fast response vehicle, ambulance and clinical supervisor were among emergency services at the scene in Otley Road, about one mile from Dick Hudson's pub, after the collision, shortly before 4pm last Friday.

Fire crews from Shipley and Bingley also attended.

Mr Edson's car collided with a Mercedes-Benz dropside lorry that was parked and stationary in a layby. The Porsche then left the road and and came to rest in a wooded area.

At the hearing in Bradford yesterday, Assistant Bradford Coroner Oliver Longstaff released Mr Edson's body so funeral arrangements can be made and adjourned the inquest pending further police investigations.

Police are continuing to urge witnesses to call the West Yorkshire Police Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101.
