THE winning garden in this year's Saltaire Open Gardens Trail was praised for creating “a relaxing and welcoming space” with a “clever use of found and recycled materials”.

Vicki Burdall's garden in Rhodes Street was the judge's favourite, and she received the Rance Booth Smith winner's cup.

A total of 20 gardens were open to visitors, including the Shipley College and Wash House gardens. They showed a variety of planting and creativity, alongside sculptures, ceramics and glass.

The winner of the visitors' prize was a garden on George Street, which featured a striking pink and black horse sculpture by Sam Shendi.

Local resident Gillian Harrison, who also works at event sponsors Rance Booth Smith Architects, said: “What a super weekend! I had a lovely afternoon doing the trail and this year’s was better than ever. The sculptures and pop-up events were a great addition and there was a lovely atmosphere around the whole village.”

The Open Gardens Trail has been running for three years, organised by Ros Garside of the Saltaire Festival Committee.
