FIREFIGHTERS from seven stations scrambled to Leeds Bradford Airport after receiving reports of a plane in trouble as it came into land.

Air traffic controllers said there was a light aircraft coming in to land with hydraulic failure and that nine people were on board.

Hydraulic systems control aspects of planes such as flight controls and landing gear.

Fire crews from the airport, Rawdon, Cookridge, Idle, Stanningley, Moortown and Cleckheaton attended the incident at about 7pm last night.

A spokesman for Rawdon fire station said: "There was hydraulic failure on a light aircraft. The pilot carried out his procedures to deal with that whilst airborne and he still managed to land the plane on all the landing gear.

"The pilot dealt with it efficiently. No-one was injured and everything was OK."
