TWO people who ignored notices from Bradford Council to clear rubbish-strewn gardens have been fined more than £3,500 between them.

Hardeep Kanda, of Bradford Road, Pudsey, must pay a total £2,097, while Irene Barnowski, of Bootham Park, Daisy Hill, Bradford, must pay £1,670.

The council had to clear rubbish from a property on Rochester Street, Bradford, owned by Kanda.

Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court heard yesterday that Kanda ignored a clearing notice from the council and also a fixed penalty notice fine.

He was not present at court when magistrates imposed a £1,000 fine and an order to pay £997 costs and a £100 surcharge.

Barnowski, who also did not appear at court, was found guilty after prosecutor Harjit Ryatt told that she had failed to remove rubbish including an armchair, mattress, sofas, wood, and bags of builders' waste from a garden at a property on Maidstone Street.

She also ignored a clearing notice and a fixed penalty notice, the court heard.

Barnowski's punishment was broken down into a £800 fine, £790 costs and an £80 surcharge.
