AN INVESTIGATION was under way tonight into a rail death between Bradford and Halifax.

The incident happened near Lightcliffe Golf Club this afternoon after train staff reported someone had been hit while on the track.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to the line close to Hipperholme Tunnel in Hipperholme, Halifax, at 2.45pm on Tuesday, September 16, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The Office of Rail Regulation and Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident cause disruption to services from Bradford during the afternoon, though the line was re-opened by late afternoon.
