Plans to convert a four story mill in Bradford's Employment Zone into apartments have been refused by Bradford Council.

Altex UK had applied to turn 12 - 14 Adelaide Street, in the city centre off Manchester Road into a mixed use development of offices, storage and 14 apartments.

The building is currently used as offices and storage, and the company said the property would be a "highly sustainable location" for apartments.

But planners said there was a presumption against residential uses in an employment zone, and that flats could actually jeopardise jobs. The report adds the scheme is: "likely to jeopardise existing established commercial use through statutory noise nuisance acts and potentially sterilize future commercial uses within the proximity of the application site, whereby conflicting with the function of the Employment Zone."
