BUSINESS are backing our bid to get people pounding the city's streets in aid of the Telegraph & Argus Crocus Cancer Appeal.

We're aiming to get 200 fundraisers signed-up for the annual City Runs next month, which this year is supporting our £1 million fundraiser.

Seasoned and novice runners alike are being called on to get their trainers on and take part in the community event to raise money to help the city's ground-breaking research into cancer treatments.

The City Runs event, on Sunday, October 26, includes a children's one mile race, a 5k, a 10k and half marathon.

All routes start and finish in City Park and roads will be closed to traffic, to give runners and spectators a unique city centre event.

The T&A has written to businesses across the district inviting them to join us on any of the runs.

One of those to accept is Synergy People, a recruitment and HR firm based in Eccleshill. Three staff, Martin Rhodes, Billy Bingham and David Armitage, will take part in the 10k.

Professional services consultant Mr Armitage said the company had been looking to do more fundraising in Bradford.

"We saw this as a good cause and we'll be able to create more awareness for the charity," he said.

"I think it will be a good day. We've got a bit of training to do and I think it will be great,

"Sometimes it's just good to commit to something, then you've got something to aim for."

SIGN UP TO TAKE PART IN THE BRADFORD CITY RUNS

The T&A is working with Yorkshire Cancer Research, the Sovereign Health Care Charitably Trust and the University of Bradford to raise £1m to buy a new machine for use by researcher's at the university's Institute of Cancer Therapeutics.

The mass spectrometer will help scientists better understand the vital role that certain proteins play in the spread of cancerous cells. With a clearer understanding of which proteins enable cancer progression, they are much better placed to design targeted cancer medicines.

Visit www.telegraphandargus.co.uk/cityruns to sign-up and tick the check box to say you're running in aid of the Crocus Appeal.

Fundraisers who take part in support of the appeal can take advantage of physio massages for university students and relax with a tea or coffee at The Turls Green in City Park after the race.
