JOBS are in jeopardy at three Phones 4u stores in the district as the retail chain plunged into administration.

A notice in the window of the Darley Street shop in Bradford city centre apologised for being shut, blaming it on “the unexpected decision of EE and Vodafone to withdraw supply” from it.

The note was signed off by “The Heartbroken Phones 4u Team” and a picture of a sad face.

It was a similar scene at the Market Street store in Shipley and Cooke Street in Keighley – although lights were on inside and staff had been told to turn up for work as usual – there were no signs of life through the locked glass doors.

Nationally about 6,000 staff could lose their jobs now that EE has joined Vodafone in cutting ties with the retailer, which sells contracts on behalf of the network operators.

A decision is awaited by administrators at PwC on whether the private equity-owned business can be reopened for trading.

Phones 4U had also been due to open in the Westfield Broadway shopping centre which is under construction.
