A 47-YEAR-old Bradford man has been jailed for 14 months after "driving a glass" into the face of a man, causing him to be scarred for life, in a drunken row in a pub.

Gary Hammond, of Cyprus Drive, Thackley, struck his glass into the face of Callum Gray after an altercation at the Ferrands Arms pub, Queens Street, Bingley on May 25 last year.

Just minutes before in the busy pub, Gray's friend Jonathan Perry had knocked into Hammond and the latter then shoved and punched him on his chin.

This caused Gray to step in between them in a bid to act as peacemaker.

But Hammond reacted angrily to this interference and struck Gray with his glass, causing it to shatter in his face, resulting in him having three permanent scars.

Hammond pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault and another of unlawful wounding.

Bradford Crown Court heard today Hammond was a director of a family cleaning business which had lost a principal client in late 2012, causing the firm financial difficulties.

Leading up to the pub incident, his two-year marriage had broken down and he had suffered from depression and drug problems. He was also drinking heavily on the night of the incident.

His Honour Judge Jonathan Rose told Hammond: "You lashed out at Jonathan Perry, you had no right to do so.

"You drove that glass into the face of Callum Gray in the area of his eye. It was a weapon. The potential to blind that young man was significant."
