AN energetic resident at a Bingley care home received her second telegram from the Queen as she celebrated her 105th birthday.

Louie Piotrowski is still "waltzing around" according to her son Jim Yates and staff at the Duchess Gardens Care Centre in Bingley.

"She has slowed down a bit in the last year, but she still loves her singing and music," said Mr Yates.

Louie, who was born Sarah Louise Duffy in Hunslet, married Frank Yates and moved to Otley in 1939, where their sons Peter and Jim grew up.

A keen member of Otley Choral Society, she also taught ballroom dancing while working as a nurse and became the warden of the Menston Hall care home in 1967.

After Mr Yates' father's early death, Louie married Polish mill-worker Ted Piotrowski, who died 22 years ago, and retired to Burley-in-Wharfedale, where she celebrated her 100th birthday at home in 2009.

She enjoyed a family gathering at the centre on Friday, featuring music by her favourite Irish singer, Joseph Locke.
