THE weekend's changeable weather may not have been favourable to one major event this weekend, but it left hundreds of people basking in sunshine for two others.

Crowds attending the annual Keighley Show on Saturday were greeted with soggy weather that hit turnout, but the event still attracted bigger crowds than the weather might have suggested.

Loyal show-goers still supported the agricultural show, with a large number of families in attendance.

Along with traditional classes for horses, sheep, cattle, poultry, rabbits and goats, there were other animal attractions such as a ferret competition, dog show and terrier racing.

There were dozens of classes for flowers, baking, and handicrafts.

There were also children’s races, rides, brass band performances, cookery demonstrations, a range of trade stands, and stalls from local charities and community groups.

Katrina Thackray, in her 26th year as show secretary, said: “We were very disappointed in the weather, given that it was nice all week. There’s been a really good crowd considering the weather conditions.”

There was an increase in entries in the baking competition, which organisers feel is down to the popularity of the Great British Bake Off."
