INVESTIGATIONS are under way today into how a kitchen floor collapsed, leading to several people plummeting into a basement below.

Two women and a child were taken to hospital and a further seven people treated by paramedics after the accident at a West Bowling house yesterday.

This afternoon structural surveyors were expected to arrive at the house.

Emergency services were called to a terrace property on Parkside Road, where it is thought a party was being held, just after 3pm.

None of the injuries were thought to be life threatening.

Three fire engines from Bradford and Odsal, a technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton, paramedics, West Yorkshire Police and Northern Power Grid attended the scene, and the house was evacuated.

Watch commander Phil Warden from Odsal Station said: "There was a structural collapse and a cracked gas pipe and cracked water pipe. People had fallen into the cellar, which was about seven feet deep."

He said incidents like this were very rare, adding he had only been to one call-out involving the collapse of a floor at a domestic property before.

Those taken to hospital were done so for a precautionary check up.
