A BRADFORD man had to be fished out of the canal in Brighouse early this morning after trying to flee from police in what officers believe to be a stolen van.
The 27 year-old is currently in police custody on suspicion of burglary after failing to stop for officers on Thomas Street in Elland at 2.59am.
Officers pursued the white Fiat panel van, which had been stolen during an earlier burglary at Cross Hills Mount in Halifax, before it collided with a concrete bollard outside the Bridge pub in Brighouse.
Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, from Calderdale District CID, said the suspect then fell into the nearby canal and had to be rescued by officers.
The man did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident.
