THERE has been a surge in metal thefts from the power network in West Yorkshire.
One incident took place in Kings Drive, Wrose, on July 29, when ten metres of earth cable was stolen from an 11,000 volt overhead network.
Dave Arnold, Northern Powergrid’s repairs manager, said; “We were able to repair the network without having to interrupt power.”
A sudden increase in the number of thefts from the power network has caused hundreds of homes and businesses to experience power cuts.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity can ring 0800 375675, the police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
A reward of up to £1,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
