TWO teenage women have been locked up after a frying bucket was hurled and a glass door smashed in racially-aggravated violence at a McDonald's restaurant.

The manager, Nahim Rasheed, was injured in the fracas, at 2am on December 17 last year, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

In the dock were Simone James, 19, of Richmond Street, Keighley; Roman Kirvej, 23, also of Richmond Street; and a 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named because of her age.

James pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing Mr Rasheed racially aggravated actual bodily harm, affray and racially aggravated criminal damage, at the McDonald's in Hard Ings Road, Keighley.

Kirvej admitted threatening behaviour and the girl pleaded guilty to affray.

James was sentenced to six months detention in a young offender institution and the girl to a four month detention and training order.

Kirvej was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work.

James' barrister, Claire Larton, said: "She is adamant that these offences were not committed because she holds racist views."

Miss Larton said James, a college student, was mortified and apologetic. She had cut right back on her drinking and had not re-offended.

Barrister Camille Morland, for Kirvej, said he played a much lesser role than the women.

The 17-year-old's barrister, Abigail Langford, said she was the carer for her poorly mother. She realised her behaviour was disgraceful and was not looking for trouble that night.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said both young women had a history of committing offences of damage, disorder and violence.

The incident at McDonald's, captured on the restaurant's CCTV cameras, happened when staff were tidying up in the early hours.

The three defendants went in to ask to use the phone to call a cab.

When the request was refused, they became abusive and violence flared.

Judge Thomas said: "You all three went to the counter and acted appallingly to people working at 2am for minimum wages."

James used racial abuse, assaulted Mr Rasheed and deliberately broke the glass door on her way out.

Mr Rasheed suffered a bruised arm when she threw a frying bucket at him during the incident.
