A 48-YEAR-OLD Bradford woman, who is scared of heights, is to face her fears and tackle a 200ft bungee jump to raise cash for an eight-year-old boy who is battling cancer for a second time.

Kerry Stringer, of Wibsey, has taken the plight of Shane Edwards to her heart after losing her son Jared in a traffic accident 20 years ago when he was five. She is now determined to raise as much as she can for Shane, of Miles Hill Crescent, Bierley, and is calling on Bradfordians to get behind the Edwards family's fundraising drive.

Shane was six when he was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in February 2012 and has since undergone multiple operations and gruelling rounds of treatment. The aggressive form of cancer is known as glioblastoma multiforme. But after developing headaches in July this year, a further scan showed the tumour was back, and he began more chemotherapy treatment.

His parents Tracy and Philip Edwards are now pinning their hopes on a clinical trial in London and have begun a fundraising drive to help with the costs associated with the treatment.

Kerry said: "I lost my five-year-old son in a road traffic accident 20 years ago. This little boy has stolen my heart and I would do anything to help him.

"This family are fighting for him and it is so sad."

Her bungee jump is to take place at The Woodman Pub, Manchester Road, on Sunday, September 7, where she has also pledged to dress as superwoman to do the jump. To sponsor Kerry and to find out more about the family's fundraising efforts, log on to Facebook and their Shane's Fundraising page. A number of local pubs are already organising special charity events and local businesses are donating items which are being auctioned off through the fundraising page.

Tracy, 33, said the family had been amazed by the response since Shane's plight had appeared in the Telegraph & Argus. "The response has been brilliant. We've been shocked by it," she said.

She added that they had now raised more than £500, with many more pledges coming in.
