SOLICITOR Imtiaz Ameen has been selected by the Batley and Spen Conservative Association to be its candidate in the May 2015 General Election.

Mr Ameen was born and lives in Dewsbury, and was a Kirklees Councillor for the Dewsbury South ward between 2003 and 2007. He also stood as a parliamentary candidate for the Conservatives in Blackburn in 2005.

Susie Bell Proctor, the chairman of the association, said: “We had a strong list of applicants and the association’s members unanimously adopted Imtiaz."

After his selection, Mr Ameen said: "It is a privilege to have been selected as the candidate for Batley and Spen. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible between now and May."

The Batley and Spen constituency covers areas including Birkenshaw, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Gomersal, Heckmondwike and Liversedge.
