FIVE community projects which work to help young jobless people are to get support from Bradford Council.

It is using its Young Futures Fund, which was set up to help unemployed people in the 16 to 17 age group, who are deemed to be 'hard to reach' by conventional means.

The objective is to get them into education, training or employment and the fund is focused on areas where levels of unemployment are highest among the young.

The new projects have been awarded grants of £10,000 for the next year and will offer individual help to teenagers who are struggling to make progress in the world of work.

Those getting cash are J.A.M.E.S, which offers garage experience to female candidates; BCB Radio which will engage young people in music production and sports reporting; Barndardo's Bikes, which gets offenders or those at risk of offending involved in a bike recycling project; BYDP which helps find work experience placements, and BCCP, offering young people encouragement to develop skills as part of an advertising agency.

Coun Ralph Berry, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: "The project complements the Council’s Get Bradford Working employment and skills investment programme.”
