CHILDREN have been enjoying their freedom over the summer holidays with a number of craft events in Thornton's South Square Centre.
A summer activities programme in the centre's community gallery has seen children create masks, 3D portraits and cubist inspired artwork since schools broke up.
This week's events have the theme of "camouflage kids" and children have been using different materials to craft masks that will make them as stealthy as a ninja. The theme runs until Sunday, and next week children will be asked to draw or paint images of what they have been up to over the summer holidays.
The fun continued yesterday with a teddy bears' picnic and a bug hunt at the centre.
The centre, based in a collection of grade II listed former stonemasons' cottages, also has events for adults to enjoy over the summer. On Saturday, there is a summer artists' and makers' fair and open studios day.
