A POLICE forensic team are investigating after thieves unsuccessfully tried to set fire to a stolen car after smashing its windows.
The silver Proton was found abandoned outside the community centre on Spencer Road in Great Horton after being stolen from Hollingwood Avenue on Monday.
All the windows on the car were smashed, and police found a fuel container and match box at the scene. Officers think the thieves had attempted to set the vehicle on fire after they were done with it and are now searching the vehicle for fingerprints and DNA.
A police spokesman said: "The vehicle, jerry can and match box have all been recovered for a full examination by our scenes of crime department."
