ROARING Harley Davidsons will arrive in their hundreds for a Bank Holiday Weekend rally in Baildon starting this Friday.

The annual event organised by the Shipley Harley Club brings bikers from all over Britain and abroad for a three day celebration of the iconic American machine.

Based at the town's rugby club, the bikes and their owners have become a spectacular annual feature, drawing thousands of visitors, said town councillor and Harley owner John Turner.

"It's a full weekend when all the shops and bars put on extra things like early breakfasts and free bands.

"And this year it coincides with the Baildon Farmers Market so we're expecting a bumper crowd," said Cllr Turner, who rides a candy red Harley Switchback cruiser.

"The town council totally supports the weekend and when the police close the roads on Sunday for the big ride out at 1pm there will be thousands here to admire the bikes and chat to their owners.

"There's never any trouble and it's a fantastic friendly atmosphere," said Cllr Turner, who is also president of Baildon Vikings Harley club.

Sadly his "Hog" is off the road and so he will be on a new tiger-striped Honda CB 500X for the weekend.

"Other bikes are welcome as "Friends of Harleys" and the more the better," he said.
