SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies was left feeling the heat after judging a chilli growing contest at a Saltaire software firm.

Staff from Cimlogic have been growing chillies at their office at Salts Mill since January this year and drafted in Mr Davies to act as judge.

The competition was held not only to boost morale but also raised £200 for Martin House Children's Hospice.

The overall winner was Neil Taylor with Ashlea Rockett winning a prize for growing the hottest chilli.

Mr Davies said: "I was nibbling away at these chillies and it was all going rather well until I tried the final one. I have never tried anything so hot in my life.

"The last chilli I tried was so hot, it nearly caused a by-election.

"I will be more careful about what I judge in the future."

James Sykes, automation director at Cimlogic, said: "We came up with concept to boost staff morale. We had about 13 people take part."
