A CHILD who was severely injured in an accident at Keighley's North Beck is still critically ill.

Police said the eight-year-old boy, who was injured on July 27 while at Tinker Bridge, off North Dean Road, remains seriously ill in hospital.

It is believed that the boy hit his head when he fell into the water and was unconscious beneath the surface for about five minutes before he was rescued.

Nearby residents were alerted by a group of children and a firefighter pulled the boy out of the beck following a search of the scene.

Since the accident, the emergency services have warned people not to play in rivers, lakes and canals.

A Keighley councillor has said that safety warning signs must be installed at Tinker Bridge to help prevent another tragedy.
