A MAN was arrested and another was being hunted by police tonight after a car failed to stop for officers and was involved in a crash shortly afterwards.
Two men emerged from a Ford Mondeo and fled after it had been driven away when police had tried to stop it in Gomersal today.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 36-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of taking a car without consent and inquiries were continuing to trace a second man.
Inspector Philip Ounsley, of Kirklees Police, said: ‘‘At 2.30pm officers indicated for a Ford Mondeo vehicle to stop in the Gomersal area. This car made off and almost immediately collided with another vehicle- a silver BMW- on Spen Lane.
‘‘A 36-year-old man was arrested from the Mondeo on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent. Inquiries are ongoing to trace another man who was seen to flee from the Mondeo.
‘‘A male occupant from the BMW is believed to have sustained a neck injury as a result of the collision.’’
A Spen Lane resident said two men had fled through gardens, running straight through hedges with police in pursuit as they left the crash scene.
The crash happened about 2.30pm.
