A WOMAN is trying to trace the family of a soldier killed during the First World War after finding a newspaper cutting of his death notice.

Denise Swain, of Idle, found the clipping, from an unknown publication, of Private Arthur Wood in a Bible.

The 19-year-old was killed in France on July 20, 1917.

The notice says he was the son of Mr and Mrs John W Wood, enlisted in March 1917 and was employed by Cleckheaton Co-Operative Society in the grocery department.

The clipping was left inside a second-hand Bible at a table top sale at Bradford Seventh Day Adventist Church, Little Horton Lane, several years ago.

With the centenary of the outbreak of The Great War this week, she felt it was timely to re-ignite efforts to find his family.

She said: "I'd like to give it back. The Bible was left behind at the table top sale and I started to look through it. I've had it for a few years.

"I tried to look up about him but was not successful."

Anyone with any further information on Pte Wood is urged to email Pastor Isaac Liburd at isaacliburd@gmail.com.
