BRADFORD East MP David Ward has backed figures showing car insurance premiums have decreased by 19.3 per cent over the last 12 months.

The figures, for April to June this year from the AA British Car Insurance Premium Index, shows the average quoted Shoparound premium for an annual comprehensive car insurance policy fell by 6.1 per cent to £504.29.

Over the last 12 months the average quoted premium has fallen by more than £120.

Drivers aged 17 to 22 still pay the largest premiums, an average £1,096.45 a year, but they also experienced the largest premium fall by 7.5 per cent.

Bradfordians, as on average, they would have seen their insurance premiums fall by 5.3 per cent in the last three months from £631 to £598.

Mr Ward (Lib Dem) said: “The biggest ever annual fall in insurance premiums as announcement by the AA is really excellent news and shows that the reforms already implemented by the Government are working in helping to significantly reduce car insurance premiums across the country."
