FRIDGES, freezers, carpet, furniture and broken fences are among items that have been dumped in Bradford Moor.

The area, on Redmire Street, also has plastic, numerous empty boxes and five full bin-liners littering it.

Councillor Mohammed Shafiq (Lab, Bradford Moor) said: "It is a disgrace. I don't know who is doing it, but it is ruining the area - it is bringing the area down."

He told the Telegraph & Argus that he had received a high number of calls yesterday morning.

Cllr Shafiq said: "It is a big issue in Bradford Moor - I have been contacted about it by lots of local residents."

He also urged those responsible to stop and encouraged people to report anyone who was dumping rubbish illegally.

"I am urging communities to take pride in our area," said Cllr Shafiq.

"Report fly-tipping to the Council - if you see someone doing it, report them.

"I also urge those responsible for fly-tipping to instead make use of the facilities provided by the Council. It is five minutes to get to Bowling Back Lane. They can easily go there."

Cllr Shafiq said that about three years ago Bradford Council spent cash improving a neighbouring street.

"The Council have recently invested money in a facelift for Derby Road, yet people are just dumping rubbish and it is becoming a tip area," he said.

"There is a huge area of rubbish.

"It is on a new development - there was money invested in a housing facelift programme, including improved boundary walls and back streets. It had made the whole street look really pleasant and nice."

Residents living in nearby Gladstone Street have also experienced fly-tipping in an alley which runs behind home - though their efforts to get the rubbish cleared by Council staff have been thwarted because the thoroughfare is privately owned.

Resident Kamran Hussain, 21, said residents looked after the street in front of their homes but were troubled by fly-tippers.

A Council spokesman said: "We always investigate fly tipping incidents to see if we can identify those who fly tip so we can prosecute them, but obviously we need evidence to identify the perpetrators.

"Our council wardens patrol neighbourhoods, but we would urge local people to be vigilant and record times and dates and any registration vehicle plates of anyone seen to be dumping rubbish and report incidents to us on 434366 or www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/transport_and_infrastructure/street_care_and_cleaning/fly_tipping/fly_tipping."
