FORMER Wilsden man Peter Crolla raised more than £1,700 by taking part in the Tough Mudder.

He took part in the gruelling physical challenge to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his sister’s death.

Mr Crolla, who has lived in the Midlands several years, is giving his £1,730 sponsorship proceeds to the Martin House Hospice.

Mr Crolla’s sister Heather died in the hospice at the age of 15 after fighting serious illness all her life.

Mr Crolla’s efforts to honour Heather saw him do a 10 mile obstacle course billed as “probably the toughest event on the planet”.

The Tough Mudder is an obstacle course designed to test all-round strength, stamina, teamwork and mental grit.

Mr Crolla said he was really pleased with the amount he raised during the Tough Mudder Midlands event on July 13 in dense woodland near Kettering. His original target was £1,000.

Mr Crolla said: “The event itself was hard but really enjoyable with a great sense of teamwork from everybody involved.”

Peter, whose parents Diane and Peter still live in Wilsden, was three years younger than his sister, who was born with Downs Syndrome and with a massive hole in her heart.

Mr Crolla is team manager for the Honda Yuasa Racing team, which competes in the British Touring Championship.
