A teaching assistant who has been working at a Clayton school since the 1980s has been bid a fond farewell by colleagues and pupils.

Carol Brady has been at St Anthony's Catholic Primary School on Bradford Road for 25 years, and today had her last day at the school before retiring. Yesterday, the school held a special assembly, attended by her family, where she was thanked for her years of service, as well as being presented with gifts from staff parents and children.

Headteacher Madeleine Bannister said: "It was a real joyous occasion, her family attended and we all expressed our thanks to her. She started working at the school in 1989 and she has been a teaching assistant in many different classes over the years.

"She has been a much loved member of staff and we'll all miss her."

Earlier in the month the school marked the end of the year, its 60th anniversary, by burying a time capsule for future generations to find out what life was like at St Anthony’s in 2014.
