Bradford is set to enjoy its hottest day of the year so far tomorrow, but be warned, the heatwave is due to break on Friday night with heavy thunderstorms forecast across the district.

Temperatures are due to soar to 25 degrees tomorrow afternoon, one degree higher than today, when crowds flocked to City Park to soak up the sun and enjoy the summer atmosphere.

Meteorologists have put the baking temperatures down to a belt of Iberian weather hitting UK shores, but the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Yorkshire and the Humber for Saturday, with the prospect of torrential downpours with frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds.

Storms were the last thing on the mind of the hundreds of people who descended on the city centre today, with revellers taking the opportunity to splash about in the fountains and even try a spot of table tennis outside City Hall.

Paul Murphy, 33, of Eccleshill, treated his four year-old son Harley to an ice-cream and said: "I love coming down here and seeing the scenery of the city on a sunny day like this."

Sophie Morley, 24, of Thornton, cooled off with her three year-old daughter Willow in the Mirror Pool and said: "We often come down here when the weather is nice, it doesn't cost anything and it's a great place to bring kids."
