Plans for £250m Bradford eco-village go on display

VISION: How the centre of the New Bolton Woods development might look

VISION: An artists' impression showing how the Poplars Park neighbourhood in the New Bolton Woods development could look

PLANS for a new eco-village in the Canal Road Corridor went on public display yesterday.

The £250 million masterplan for New Bolton Woods is a joint venture between Bradford Council and development firm Urbo Regeneration.

It includes up to 1,200 homes, a new primary school and nursery, an artificial turf football pitch and a new local centre with a supermarket, a village square, shops and restaurants.

An exhibition of the plans was held yesterday at both Bolton Woods Community Centre and Poplars Farm School.

Urbo director Andy Dainty said they hoped to submit a planning application to Bradford Council planners next month.

He said: "This bit of the process is about keeping people informed of what is going on."

Phase one of the scheme has already begun, with planning permission in place for 139 homes.

Developer Skipton Properties is in the process of building the first 46 properties in a development called The Poplars, and its marketing director Caroline Verity said 11 of the homes had been snapped up off-plan, before its show home had opened.

there's a couple of those vans around Bradford. I've seen a yellow one operating as a food truck in Saltaire.

Canal Road one of the most congested areas of Bradford. Will be a nightmare if built for those who have to pass through due to work.

Totally agree, a long existing nightmare will simply get worse!

Sort the bottleneck first!

Caroline Verity might be very excited about houses "being snapped up off plan before the show home had opened" but it reminds me of the worst excesses of the buy-to-let madness which is gripping this country. The houses should only be sold to genuine first-time-buyers or those who promise to live in the houses they buy and not let them out at extortionate rents.

Please can we have an artists impression of the gridlock all these extra vehicles from these new houses will cause, no hang on a minute I'll just look out of my window, Valley road, Canal road into Shipley Airedale road has to be the busiest of roads in both directions at the best of times. Unless the whole stretch of road into Shipley and in the other direction into Bradford is improved this will end in tears.

They forgot to mention the new Polski Sklep (shops) required for that area of Bradford.

The area is a nightmare already with traffic, even at non peak times.

Can we have a link to the plans?

Surely this will affect everyone who drives along Canal Road.
