A MAN stabbed to death by his partner was assaulted by her with a broken wine bottle the previous year, it was alleged by the prosecution barrister today.

Andrew Kershaw, cross-examining Alexia Heckles, accused her of stabbing Scott Dunne in the neck with a smashed bottle neck 11 months before she killed him with a knife wound to the heart.

Heckles, who denies murdering Mr Dunne on January 18, was arrested in February, 2013 on suspicion of assault, the jury at Bradford Crown Court has heard.

Mr Dunne, 41, was treated in hospital for a neck wound and told medical staff Heckles had attacked him.

He later said he was injured when he was "jumped" by two lads while walking home from a party late at night.

Heckles, 35, said she called an ambulance when Mr Dunne arrived at her flat in Rosemary Gardens, Allerton, Bradford, bleeding from his mouth.

She said the wine bottle was broken by accident and she thought she might have scratched Mr Dunne's neck with her fingernails while trying to get her phone back off him.

Five months later, in July last year, Mr Dunne was arrested from outside the flat after Heckles complained that he had punched her several times in her bedroom.

She did not follow up her allegation in a police statement.

Mr Kershaw accused Heckles of "tidying up" after Mr Dunne was fatally stabbed by opening a window and throwing out drugs paraphernalia.?

He also suggested that she had moved Mr Dunne, whose face and head were burned on the bedroom radiator while he was lying under the window after he was stabbed with a large kitchen knife.

Heckles denied touching anything after running for help when she could not stop Mr Dunne bleeding.

During the trial, the court has heard that neighbours at the flats heard Heckles' "loud angry voice" quarrelling with Mr Dunne for hours in the evenings.

Mr Kershaw alleged that the couple had problems with alcohol and substance misuse.

The trial continues.
