Road safety project targeted at worst blackspots
3:23pm Tuesday 8th July 2014 in News
KEIGHLEY councillors will carry on spending their road safety budget on the worst accident blackspots.
Keighley Area Committee members agreed to continue using an ‘evidence-based’ approach when deciding spending priorities.
Highways officers currently recommend a list of schemes each year based on locations where the most people have been killed or injured.
The committee, part of Bradford Council, generally follows the officers’ recommendations on spending their £120,000 annual budget.
The committee has been presented with the annual accident figures for Keighley and Bradford district.
They heard that the number of people injured in road accidents had continued to fall across the Keighley area.
Pedestrians and car occupants are now safer and local roads, but the number of pedal cyclists and motorcyclists injured has steadily risen over the past six years.
