The associate director of Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) praised staff after a busy Tour de France weekend.

Alan Baranowski said the event was a success for the service and that it managed to provide a safe and responsive service.

" would like to say a big thank you to everyone at YAS for a job well done this weekend and I expect that, like me, they are all extremely proud to have been involved in this unique and momentous event.

"The event has not just been a success for Yorkshire, but also for Yorkshire Ambulance Service and we are delighted that the many months of planning and preparations have paid off.

"Our aim was to ensure that this high profile event was celebrated in true Yorkshire style and enjoyed by all and that it did not impact upon our ability to provide responsive emergency care as it passed through the county. We are pleased to say that we achieved this.

"The service has been kept very busy throughout the weekend but our contingency plans held up and we maintained a safe and responsive service as the public of Yorkshire and visitors to the region celebrated in true Yorkshire style.

"We couldn’t have achieved this without the dedication and support of all of our staff, volunteers, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and our neighbouring ambulance services colleagues; together we have joined forces to form our very own winning team."
