One of the district's attractions hosted a day of activities designed to reduce child deaths and injuries.

The 'Be a Safety Hero Fun Day' at East Riddlesden Hall, formed part of this year's Child Safety Week.

The occasion was arranged by Bradford Safeguarding Children Board. Parents, carers, nursery schools and children centres across the district were invited to take part.

Activities featured a special 'be a safety hero' trail, a puppet theatre show, games and prizes, face painting, as well as fire safety and road safety information displays.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Bradford's portfolio holder for children’s services, said: "Accidental injury is one of the most common causes of hospital admissions, and a major cause of death for children.

"We can prevent many of these accidents through simple steps. These free events are a great way of engaging families so we can get the message across about child safety.”

Michael Jameson, strategic director of children’s services, said: "Child safety is everyone’s responsibility, and there is always more we can do to prevent accidents.

"Child Safety Week provides a great platform for sharing information, resources and practical advice on how we can make life safer for children across the district.”
