HOLIDAYMAKERS are being urged to get travel insurance in a campaign backed by a Bradford MP.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has revealed that almost one in five people in Yorkshire travel abroad uninsured.
Bradford East MP David Ward is backing the association's campaign to warn people of the costs they could face if they fell ill while away.
He said: "We all look forward to our well-deserved summer holiday. However, medical costs arising from uninsured accidents abroad can be very significant indeed."
Mr Ward said it was often people's families who were presented with any medical bills.
He said: "It is just not worth taking the risk. Getting travel insurance for a holiday is just as vital as taking sun cream with you, it’s a travel essential and that’s why I am very happy to support this campaign and urge all my constituents to take out travel insurance this before going on holiday this summer."
