An 11-year-old from Queensbury will have a lasting impact on the village after she won a competition to name a new road.
Nizalia Latif, who attends Queensbury School, suggested Bellway’s new development of 124 houses on Brighouse Road should be called Queenshead Park as part of a competition run by the developers.
Nizalia’s suggestion was selected from a short list of five names, and she will now join Bellway in cutting the ribbon at the site's official opening later this summer.
Nizalia said: “I picked the name Queenshead because that is what our town used to be called up until 1937. I liked the old name because I thought it would be important to the people who live here.”
Paula Murdoch, sales manager for Bellway Yorkshire said: “Being involved with Queensbury School has been an absolute pleasure and we’ve had great fun along the way meeting with the pupils and staff and looking through their suggestions.”
Christine Lear, the school's assistant headteacher, said: “It was a great way of getting our pupils to learn about our village’s history.”
