WORLD Cup magic came to Manningham sports centre when 120 boys from the local community took part their own special soccer competition.

Saturday's day of matches and prize giving was organised by the Manningham Football Academy, which gives south Asian children the opportunity to play "the beautiful game" which is growing in local popularity.

MFA chairman Jerry Hussain said there was a new wave of youth keen to copy their footballing heroes.

"They have all been watching their favourite stars on TV and and as we couldn't take them there - we thought we'd bring Brazil to them," Mr Hussain said.

"We had matches and trophies for the under nines, sevens,11s and 16s and it was a fantastic day.

"Previously there were not the role models to draw south Asian youngsters into football, but now people see it as a sport everyone can get into.

"Football is excellent for interaction between all communities."
