The World Curry Festival returns to Bradford for the fifth time this weekend with street market stalls, masterclasses and a junior chef competition.

Starting on Friday, from 11am, the event continues through to Sunday - all in Bradford's City Park.

There will be stalls serving up Indian street food snacks and live music on the Oz stage, as well as masterclasses in the Curry Theatre. Join the festivities later in the day for the festival's happy hour, soak up the atmosphere with a drink and a curry, and watch the finals of the Junior Curry Chef of the Year competition.

Each day, as well as watching renowned curry chefs at work you will have the chance to learn to cook a curry with a team of professionals at the new World Curry Festival Cooking School.

Zulfi Karim, founder of the festival, said: "The World Curry Festival was born out of a love of food, culture and community. The three day event attracts in the region of 30,000 visitors who come to experience the authentic tastes of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, the Caribbean, Malaysia, America and, not forgetting, Europe and the UK.

"Our fifth festival will be a truly memorable one. We've taken the best elements from previous festivals and combined them in a spectacular programme, which offers something for everyone.

"We'll be celebrating the wonders of curry with master chefs from around the world, through poetry and drama, and by involving young people in the Junior Curry Chef Competition."

Chefs appearing at the World Curry Festival this year include: Grand Master Chef Hemant Oberoi, from the Taj Group of Hotels, India; Norman Musa, an expert in Malaysia cuisine; Yorkshire rising star Stephanie Moon; consultant chef, Matthew Benson-Smith; Anita Jaisinghani from Texas, USA; Rahila Hussain, winner of Food Glorious Food; broadcaster and expert chef Hardeep Singh Kohli; popular television chef, Manju Malhi; Khushy Patel of the renowned Prashad restaurant; and Mohammed Aslam of the Aagrah Group.

The fifth World Curry Festival in the city also sees a new collaboration with Ilkley Literature Festival to present Poetry In The City, a programme of varied poetry events over the three days. Tickets are available online at ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk.
