A BRADFORD charity which provides beds for the city's homeless and vulnerable has received a £6,300 cash boost from a supermarket.

Asda Foundation gave money to the Inn Churches project after it was nominated by staff at the Forster Square Asda Living store.

The charity uses spaces in local churches, with volunteers welcoming, feeding, and supporting people in need during the cold winter months.

The money means the charity should be able to help another 150 people by the end of this year.

Inn Churches started out as a temporary month-long pilot project but has grown to become a thriving community scheme with more than 550 volunteers signed up to help run it from 70 churches and the wider community, providing more than 5,000 beds for the night since it started.

Away from winter, Inn Churches continues to work with homeless people in partnership with other agencies in the city to provide a permanent and lasting change in the lives of the guests it has hosted.

“We are all delighted for the team at Inn Churches, as we have worked with them all on various occasions now, including several donations of bedding! We know how much this grant meant to the charity and to have it now accepted is just brilliant.” said Asda Living Bradford Community life champion, Katie Stanworth.

Inn Churches' chief executive officer, Juli Thompson, said the amount of money was fantastic.

She said: " We are hugely grateful to Asda Living in Bradford and the Asda Foundation for making this possible. The money will enable us to help a further 150 people at the end of this year, on top of the 600 or so we can normally support”.

Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation aims to have a positive impact on local communities, by providing support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda community life colleagues across the UK.
