A family of blackbirds has taken up residence in an unusual spot.

They have made a nest behind a plant pot in a bookcase at the entrance to the shop at Kershaws Garden Centre in Brighouse.

The blackbirds have hatched several of the eggs, and can be seen feeding them on a regular basis.

Liz Kenny, manager of the garden centre in Halifax Road, said, “We have had many birds nesting in and around the plants, this is the first time that the eggs have hatched, especially in a noisy place where doors are opening and closing”.

Kershaws is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a party on the weekend of August 2 and 3, with party games, stalls and donkey rides while raising money for Overgate Hospice, Elland.
