Owz that...Eighty-year-old Bill Robinson has proved you are never too old to be a star player by taking five wickets in a county cricket match.

Bill claimed 5-20 in his eight-over spell for Yorkshire Terriers' Disabled side in their win at Shropshire in the National Disabled Cricket League.

The left-arm spinner, who was born with only one hand, tore through the Shropshire batting attack and joked he might now have to put off his planned retirement from playing after his impressive display.

Bill, of Kenmore Walk, Wibsey, who has lined up for Yorkshire Terriers for more than 20 years, now hopes to continue playing for the rest of the season and take his good form into the team's next clash against Lancashire at Undercliffe Cricket Club, Intake Road on June 22.

He said: "I've given myself something to live up to now. It was a good day to me.

"Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't.

"I'm a slow bowler and it was a very slow wicket - it was one of those wickets.

"The team said I will have to put my retirement off for another few years now.

"The team are used to me, I do coaching and I was skipper for about five or six years. They respect me. I've been playing with them now for more than 20 years.

"Our opening bowlers did not make much of an impact at all but they put me on at one end. I'm the oldest in our team by a long way.

"I've played all of the games this season so far and I usually do well against Lancashire.

"I've played at Lord's, The Oval, Old Trafford and Headingley for the Terriers. I've been playing league cricket all of my life.

"There's quite a bit of travelling but it's all played in a good spirit."

The Terriers’ next match is a 40 overs-a-side clash against Lancashire Disabled County Cricket Club on June 22 at Undercliffe Cricket Club from 1pm.

They play in a four-team league which also includes Warwickshire and Shropshire.

Yorkshire Terriers train at Undercliffe Cricket Club every Wednesday between 6pm and 8pm.
