The wartime spirit was to the fore as hundreds of people defied heavy rain on Saturday to go back in time for a 1940s themed weekend.
Re-enactment enthusiasts dressed up as Army generals and RAF fighter pilots, with ‘Winston Churchill’ and ‘General Patton’ among those on parade at the event in Brighouse town centre.
And a real-life D-Day veteran was among those enjoying the old time entertainment.
Ninety-year-old Yorkshireman Stan Taylor, still looking tall and straight, travelled from his home in the south for the occasion.
Widower Mr Taylor was only 20 when he was involved in the D-Day landings, but he preferred to remember the wartime sweetheart, Barbara, he met, married and spent nearly 70 years with.
He said: “I don’t want to remember D-day. I am lucky, I got home. The heroes were all those friends who didn’t come back, who gave their lives. The day I won’t forget is the day I met my wife.”
