The first Fagley Gala for decades is to have a special guest of honour today – the original Gala Queen.

Winifred Kay was crowned queen at the very first Fagley Gala in 1951.

She read about its revival this year and got in touch with Matthew Graham at Fagley Community Centre in Fagley Road, where today’s gala will take place.

She will be the guest of honour at the event, which runs from noon to 4.30pm, and will take part in crowning the Gala King and Queen, along with MP David Ward (Lib Dem, Bradford East).

Mr Ward said: “It’s fantastic that we will have Winifred to help celebrate the Fagley Gala.”
